Product Design of OnTime Pharmacy SaaS
For the last 30 years, OnTime Soft, Inc has been helping community pharmacies grow and achieve their goals by providing tools and training. They're leaders in the pharmacy industry in Puerto Rico and have the exclusive rights to RX30 on the island, a leading pharmacy software. This has allowed them to position themselves as an authority in the field.
Now they're aiming to offer their first SaaS Product to help community pharmacies better engage with patients (and in the future, with doctors). I designed three products – the mobile app, and two data visualization dashboards.
Problem
For the patients, the biggest problem is the wait time. The average wait time is two hours on the pharmacy floor, and although most pharmacies have a sitting room, it is still inconvenient.
The reason community pharmacies don't have an app as a service, it's the cost. They can't develop and/or maintain the technology needed; hence bigger pharmacy chains are becoming more competitive.
Objectives
The need for a mobile app came about when OnTime Soft, Inc. decided to expand its offering to service the community pharmacy with a powerful tool that otherwise, community pharmacies wouldn’t be able to obtain. When I got involved, only the goals were clear, they needed patients to upload their prescription, or request a refill with ease on an app; while managing their clients, the community pharmacies.
Solution
I led the design of this digital product, working on the UX/UI for the Mobile App, and the UX and some UI for both dashboards: the System Admin Dashboard, and the Pharmacy Client Dashboard.
The most important goal is to provide a Mobile App with great usability that can help thousands of patients by allowing them to upload the photo/image of their prescriptions and/or scan/insert-number of refills, and place a request for the dispensing of their medication.
The Pharmacy Client Dashboard it's designed to save pharmacist time by allowing them to process more prescriptions without having to interact with patients directly. Pharmacy owners will be able to have multiple pharmacies and define the role of their employees. They'll also be able to download audits that will inform them of all actions taken by date/time/user. Also having easy access to how many prescriptions they've received and process per day. In the future, the system will connect with RX30, which will reduce time and raise efficiency
On their System Admin Dashboard, management will be able to add/block/delete pharmacies, and pharmacists. While knowing the number of patients that have downloaded the app and how many prescriptions they've uploaded— they'll never have access to patient information. They'll work with and manage pharmacies only.
- I downloaded and used various pharmacy apps from P.R. and abroad, I did competitive research, and defined what this new app should focus on; usability, readability, and empathy toward the eldery.
- I created and tested various prototypes and evaluated (alongside the Software Developer) possibilities for this new mobile app: including large buttons for people over 65, accessible typography and color, minimum effort navigation (icons plus words), among others.
- I defined the information architecture, the flows, and the copy (written in P.R. Spanish) that would later be edited for Spanish LATAM and translated to English by the Translator.
- This was a broad product, and I worked rapidly to understand and define product goals, refine the product and design, and ultimately present the designs to the stakeholders.
Outcomes
The ideal outcome will not only bring in more business to OnTime Soft, Inc and its pharmacy customers, but it will help patients that would otherwise be waiting long periods for their prescription(s). Reducing patients stress and allowing them to enjoy life better.
Development is still ongoing, and some features might change in the future. I'm very grateful to have had the privilege of working on this very diverse and challenging project.
